Photo Gallery: PACCAR’s automated transmission unveiling PACCAR hosted a launch event for its new automated transmission, unveiling the final piece of PACCAR’s proprietary powertrain. You can read all about the new transmission over at FleetEqiupmentMag.com, but before you hit the link, check out this photo gallery from the event held at the PACCAR Technical Center, a site that boasts impressive engineering, simulation and validation capabilities to accelerate product development. Enough with the reading, onto the pics… The PACCAR automated transmission. This cool cut-away showed off the innards. Fear not: The transmission you put to work will be fully assembled. The transmission in its rightful powertrain place. The powertrain puzzle is complete. PACCAR launched its 40k axle last fall. Scott Newhouse, Peterbilt’s chief engineer, walked us through the powertrain. Ready to roll. The automated transmission sports a column-mounted shifter. Automated transmission controls at your finger tips. Drive, neutral and reverse selection on the shifter. Pull it down for four levels of engine braking. The button on the end allows you to toggle automated and manual shifting modes. Of course there’s a video in the works! Stay tuned for the automated transmission-focused episode.
